Recognising the diverse intersecting subjectivities and multiple roles of educational actors, this theme centres on the study of praxis pedagogies. Educational praxis is entwined with collective production and sharing of knowledges. Praxis pedagogies, particularly through a critical pedagogical lens, are interrogated in terms of creating a possibility for orientation towards a philosophically and theoretically informed reflexive, and practical wisdom. A reflexive awareness and self-critique of individual and communal praxis underlies advancements in how higher education is enacted.
The Good Teacher Project
How do you know whether you are a “Good Teacher”?
You are invited to participate in the Good Teacher Project, an initiative of the Praxis Sub-Theme of the Critical Pedagogies Research Group (CPRG). This initiative is designed to create a space for CPRG members to connect on ideas around teaching practice, that encourages both personal and collective reflection.
The good teacher project is a collaborative research exercise designed to investigate (within a higher education context):
What makes a Good Teacher?
How do we evidence the Good Teacher?
How do we communicate the Good Teacher?
The Praxis research sub-theme looks to connect around ideas that encourage a critical gaze upon “quality teaching and learning” practices at Western Sydney University. This collaborative research project will aim to:
- Critically engage with the concept of the ‘Good Teacher’
- Look to explore ways of evidencing ‘good teaching’ that challenge neoliberal transactional accounts of education
- Find and amplify? voice to narratives of ‘good teaching’ practice.
